It’s a Ruff Life!

Traveling with your fur baby? Dogs are most welcome in these Tri-Valley wineries, breweries, shops and hiking trails.

Of the 36 hotels in the region, a whopping 22 are pet friendly—and some go above and beyond for man’s best friend.

The Best Western Danville Sycamore Inn, for instance, offers its doggie guests biscuits and a bowl of water upon arrival, while Larkspur Landing in Pleasanton has a nice grassy lawn out back for the pups to prowl.

After you and your pooch have settled in, head out to enjoy one of Northern California’s most pet-friendly regions—and bring the leash.

DOG PARKS AND TRAILS

The Canine Corral at Hap Magee Ranch in Danville is a 1.5-acre park designed for off-leash play. In Dublin, meanwhile, both Dougherty Hills Dog Park and Bray Commons Park afford dogs space to romp about. And in Livermore, pups have their pick of six dog parks. Want to go for a W-A-L-K? Tails will wag for the dog-friendly hiking trails, which can be found in all four cities. There are plenty around Lake Del Valle, and Dublin’s Martin Canyon Creek Trail has ample foliage to shade hikers from the sun, and isn’t too intense for older pooches. 888.874.9253

WINERIES, BREWERIES AND RESTAURANTS

After a day of fun in the sun, treat the dogs to a “yappy hour.” Many of Livermore’s wineries allow well-behaved hounds on their grounds, including Retzlaff Winery, Nottingham Cellars and 3 Steves Winery. If your dog is more of a beer snob, try Eight Bridges, Altamont or the dog-friendly back patio at McKay’s Taphouse and Beer Garden. Your dog will have such a good time, you won’t even have to say “stay.”

RETAIL

We can’t talk about the Tri-Valley and pets without mentioning Murphy’s Paw in Pleasanton. This animal-centric boutique carries Americanmade pet food, specialty cat trees and beds made out of wine barrels. Molly’s PupPurr-ee in downtown Danville and Smooches Pooches in Livermore are two other wellstocked doggie boutiques. For the whole ca-nine yards, visit murphyspaw.com/who-let-the-dogs-in, or dogtrekker.com.
